Privacy Policy

1. Data we process

From your Google account, when you sign in:

• your email address;
• your name;
• your profile picture (avatar).

Sign-in is through Google only. We never receive your Google password and do not store any password.

What you give us directly:

• your date of birth, which you enter when you create an account;
• the display name you choose;
• the genres and tags you pick as your interests;
• comments you post;
• reports you file about content, and an email address if you choose to add one to a report;
• support requests you send us;
• if you are a Director: the videos and covers you upload and the series information you enter.

We collect your date of birth at sign-up and store it to establish that you are at least 18. With it we store the time of the age check, and which versions of the Terms of Service and the Community Guidelines you accepted and when.

The age is self-declared: we do not ask for an ID document or a face scan at sign-up. If the date of birth entered is under 18, registration is not completed and nothing about that attempt is stored.

No ID is required to sign up, upload or enter SHOWVY NEXT. Residence and identity checks are made only at the payout stage, for winners and creators who are to receive a prize or revenue.

What is recorded as you use the Service:

• your watch progress for each episode;
• your Likes, your Show Me Next votes and the Directors you follow;
• your account status (active, restricted or suspended) and moderation actions.

If you watch without signing in, watch progress is kept against a random device ID stored in your browser. That ID is not your name or email address.

When you Like an episode, cast a Show Me Next vote or file a report, we store a shortened one-way hash of your IP address with it. We do not store the IP address itself. The hash is used only to find several accounts reacting from one place and to limit repeated reports. A random device identifier stored in your browser is also sent with your Likes and votes. It is used to find several accounts reacting from one device.

Usage data (analytics). Our analytics providers, PostHog and Google Analytics, record how the Service is used:

• the pages you visit and the buttons you tap;
• how far you watch each episode, and whether a Like, vote or upload succeeded or why it did not;
• the website or link that brought you to the Service, including campaign tags in the link;
• your device and browser type, screen size and page loading speed;
• your IP address, which our analytics providers use to estimate your approximate location (country, region and city).

These records are kept against random analytics IDs stored in your browser. When you sign in, the PostHog records are linked to your account; Google Analytics does not receive your account ID. They do not include your date of birth, your comments or the text of your support requests. Where session recording is turned on, the way you move through a page may be recorded, with the text you type hidden.

Chat on the SHOWVY NEXT page. If you use the chat on the contest page, we store the messages you send and the replies, together with a random chat ID stored in your browser, the page you were on, the link that brought you there, your browser type, and a shortened one-way hash of your IP address. The hash is used only to limit how many messages can be sent. The replies are written by an AI assistant, not a person. To reach a person, use the #contest-qna channel on our Discord. Please do not share sensitive personal information in the chat.

2. How we use it

• To sign you in and keep you signed in.
• To establish that members are at least 18 and to keep a record of the Terms of Service and Community Guidelines versions you accepted.
• To show your display name with your comments and, if you are a Director, with your series.
• To let you resume an episode where you left off.
• To show you series that match the interests you picked.
• To count Likes and Show Me Next votes into series scores, rankings and SHOWVY NEXT results.
• To detect manipulated Likes and votes and keep voting fair.
• To review reports, take down content that breaks the Terms of Service or the Community Guidelines, and answer support requests.
• To restrict or suspend accounts that give false age information or break our policies, and to keep a record of those actions.
• To host and stream the videos and covers Directors upload.
• To send you notices in the Service and to the email address of your account about the Service, SHOWVY NEXT results, the SHOWVY launch and new features. This includes promotional messages about SHOWVY.
• To understand how the Service is used, see which links and campaigns bring people to it, find problems such as failed uploads or playback errors, and improve the Service.
• To show SHOWVY ads on other websites and apps to people who have visited the Service (remarketing), unless they have opted out.
• To answer questions in the chat on the SHOWVY NEXT page, let the conversation continue when you come back, and improve the chat.

3. Cookies and browser storage

We use cookies and your browser's local storage for things the Service needs in order to work:

• session cookies that keep you signed in;
• a cookie that remembers the interests you picked;
• the random device ID used for watch progress when you are not signed in;
• the random device identifier sent with Likes and votes;
• preferences saved for that device, such as your language;
• the random chat ID and a copy of your chat on the SHOWVY NEXT page, so the conversation continues when you come back.

We also use cookies and local storage for analytics: PostHog and Google Analytics each store a random analytics ID so that your visits across the SHOWVY sites (showvy.app and its subdomains) are counted as one person. Google Analytics data may also be used for remarketing (see "Service providers"). You can opt out of that use.

If your browser sends a Do Not Track or Global Privacy Control signal, analytics does not run on that browser.

You can clear cookies and site data in your browser at any time. Doing so signs you out and removes the device identifiers, the analytics ID and the preferences saved on that device.

4. Service providers

We rely on these companies to run the Service. They process data on our behalf for the purposes listed:

• Supabase: database and authentication.
• Cloudflare Stream: storing and streaming video.
• Vercel: hosting the websites and apps.
• Google: sign-in.
• PostHog: product analytics (usage data), stored in the United States.
• Google: website analytics and advertising (Google Analytics and Google Ads).
• Anthropic: writing the chat assistant's replies on the SHOWVY NEXT page. The messages in a chat are sent to Anthropic to write each reply.

These providers may process data in countries other than the one you live in.

We do not sell your personal information. We share some of it with Google for cross-context behavioral advertising (remarketing): the random analytics ID, the pages you visit and the actions you take on the Service, and your approximate location and device information. Google uses this to show SHOWVY ads to you on other websites and apps.

You can opt out of this sharing at any time on our Do Not Sell or Share My Personal Information page (showvy.app/privacy-choices), linked as "Your Privacy Choices" at the bottom of showvy.app. Opting out there applies to the voting app and Studio too. You don't need an account to opt out. If your browser sends a Global Privacy Control signal, we treat it as an opt-out.

5. What other people can see

Your display name and your comments are visible to other people using the Service. If you are a Director, the series, episodes and covers you publish are visible to anyone.

Reports are seen by our operators.

6. How long we keep it

We keep your account data for as long as you have an account. When you ask us to delete your account, we delete the data connected to it or remove what identifies you from it, except where we have to keep something to meet a legal obligation or to resolve a dispute.

Your date of birth, the time of the age check and the record of the document versions you accepted are kept with your account. Nothing is kept for a sign-up attempt that was not completed because the date of birth was under 18.

When a series is removed, its record and files are kept so that disputes can be handled. For content that is unlawful to keep, access is blocked and we follow the reporting and preservation steps the law requires.

Watch progress kept against a device ID stays linked to that ID until you clear your browser's site data.

Usage data is kept for a limited period set in our PostHog and Google Analytics accounts and then deleted. When you ask us to delete your account, we also delete the usage data linked to it in PostHog.

Chats on the SHOWVY NEXT page are deleted one year after the last message. You can ask us to delete a chat sooner by writing to contact@showvy.app.

7. Your choices

• You can change your display name and your interests in the Service.
• You can ask us for a copy of your data, to correct it, or to delete your account and its data, by writing to contact@showvy.app from the email address of your account.
• You can remove SHOWVY's access to your Google account in your Google account settings.
• You can clear cookies and site data in your browser.
• You can opt out of sharing your personal information for advertising at showvy.app/privacy-choices.
• You can turn off analytics by turning on Do Not Track or Global Privacy Control in your browser, or by blocking cookies for showvy.app.
• You can stop promotional emails at any time with the unsubscribe link in each email or by writing to contact@showvy.app. We will still send messages you need to use the Service, such as notices about your account or your series.

Depending on where you live, the law may give you further rights over your personal data. We will honour them. Contact us at the address above.

8. Age

SHOWVY accounts are for people aged 18 or older. Public episodes can be watched without an account, and we store nothing about a sign-up attempt with a date of birth under 18.

If you believe an account belongs to someone under 18, write to contact@showvy.app. A report from a third party does not, on its own, establish that someone is under age. If SHOWVY determines that an account holder does not meet the minimum age requirement, it may suspend or terminate the account and take appropriate action in accordance with applicable laws and this Privacy Policy.

9. Security

Because sign-in is handled by Google, we hold no passwords. Access to the data is limited to what running the Service requires. No online service can guarantee perfect security; if you think your account has been misused, tell us at contact@showvy.app.

10. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy. When we do, we will publish the new version on this page with a new effective date.
